FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Costa Rica’s Gold Coast Tourist Businesses Lend Hand to U.S. Gulf Coast Bird Rescue
Tamarindo, Costa Rica – June 15, 2010 – Costa Rica’s Gold Coast tourism business community is donating a portion of its income for the next several months to Tri State Bird Rescue and Research (TSBRR), the lead bird rescue organization responding to the Gulf Oil Disaster. This unrestricted donation will allow TSBRR to apply the help where they see a need in their overall efforts.
The effort is called:
"Bridging the Gulf"
Costa Rica Welcome Centers, a leading tourist resource with offices near Tamarindo, Langosta, and Potrero beaches, is coordinating an effort among Gold Coast tourism businesses, by asking them to donate any amount they can afford up to 3% of revenue from activity from June 15, 2010 through November 15, 2010 to Tri State Bird Rescue and Research. Costa Rica Welcome Centers will work to provide information and highlight the contributions of participating businesses.
“In Costa Rica, any environmental tragedy hits close to home”, observed Allen Lungo, Costa Rica Welcome Center spokesperson. “In this particular case, we felt a special kinship with the impact on birds, because Costa Rica is home to so many treasured species.”
He added, “We have enjoyed the popularity Costa Rica has among millions of Americans and we have to acknowledge that we may be gaining visitors while U.S. Gulf Coast vacations were being canceled. We had to do something to show our support for our peers and our collective responsibility for our entire planet.”
Businesses currently participating in the program include vacation rental companies, property managers, realtors, developers, rental car companies, and others. More businesses are coming forward each day. Check program participants and details at www.costaricawelcomecenters.com, or follow updates at “COSTARICAWELCOM” on Twitter.
